DSWD Central Office, Quezon City – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA), in leadership of Deputy Administrator (DA) for Engineering and Operations Sector C’zar M. Sulaik and Engr. Gerardo P. Corsiga, Project Manager of Jalaur Multipurpose River Project II, received the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Good Practice Awards (GPA) 2017 for the Agency’s official entry under the category, “Resolving Recurrent Issues in Project Implementation”, held on March 07, 2018 at DSWD Auditorium, 4th Floor, DSWD Central Office, IBP Road, Constitutional Hills, Quezon City.
The Awarding Ceremony is chaired by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Undersecretary for Investment Programming Rolando G. Tungpalan. The Final Validation Meeting of the Screening Committee members was held on February 23, 2018.
The entry entitled, “Addressing the issues in securing a Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) for the Project’s Implementation through Convergence with other National Government Agencies to address development needs of the affected families; and Preparation of a Holistic Land Acquisition and Resettlement Action Plan to address compensation, relocation, and restoration of affected livelihood through the Jalaur River Multipurpose River Project, Stage II”, was unanimously agreed and favorably considered by the Screening Committee that NIA’s strategies helped to resolve recurrent issues in project implementation, specifically, on securing FPIC and in addressing the concerns of the affected people.
Meanwhile, Agno River Irrigation System Extension Project – Project Management Office headed by Engr. Ceferino C. Sta. Ana was nominated as one of the finalists for Best Project Management Office Category, while Engr. Alexander G. Coloma, Project Manager of Casecnan Multipurpose Irrigation and Power Project, was nominated for Best Project Manager Category. The entry under the Achieving Desired Outcomes Category entitled, “Constructing a Long Crested Weir ensures Equal Distribution of Water in the Irrigation System through CMIPP Phase 2”, made it to the finals.
Deputy Administrator Sulaik perceived the event as a motivation for NIA’s Top Management Officials to work harder towards excellence in project implementation and irrigation administration.
“The awards conferred by NEDA to NIA-JRMP, ARISEP, AND CMIPP serve as a motivation for us to work harder and secure the efficiency in project implementation. This is a symbol of the Agency’s dedication to contribute to the general welfare of Filipinos, specially, to our farmer-stakeholders”, said DA Sulaik.
The Agency is now ascertaining its vital contribution to the socio-economic and agricultural growth of the country through irrigation development and smooth project implementation.
