Philippine National Committee of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (PNC-ICID)

WHAT IT IS

The Philippines joined the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) in 1956. The Bureau of Public Works (BPW), with authorization from the Government, formally applied for membership to ICID in 1956 and was admitted on the same year. The International Executive Council (IEC) of ICID approved the application during the 8th IEC meeting in San Francisco, California, USA in 1957.

The PNC-ICID represents the Philippines and is currently among the 65 active members out of the 110 countries in the ICID Membership Network. It maintains liaison and serves as the Philippine official channel of communications and exchange of technical information with ICID. It promotes, undertakes and supports, to the extent possible, research and studies in the fields of irrigation, drainage and related aspects of water resources development, taking utmost care to avoid or minimize duplication of the functions of its institutional members.

The PNC-ICID aims to formulate and recommend to the appropriate agencies of the Government policies and practices in irrigation, drainage and related aspects of water resources development that may redound to the benefit of the country. It seeks to organize meetings, symposia, workshops and seminars to discuss issues pertaining to irrigation, drainage and river training and to publish the proceedings thereof for dissemination to appropriate Philippine agencies and concerned individuals. It shall cooperate with other professional societies on related activities and promote exchange of technical information of mutual interest.
