GCG launches the Leadership Award for outstanding GOCC Board Members; seeks public feedback on nominees

In a move to further elevate corporate governance, the Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG) has introduced a new category under its annual GCG Awards ceremony ­­­­­­─ the Leadership Award.

The award is designed to give tribute to outstanding Appointive Members of GOCC Governing Boards who have demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities, strategic vision, and governance excellence in their role; as well as, whose exemplary performance, significant contributions and remarkable accomplishments in public corporate sector have resulted in improvement and enhanced development in the GOCC, its stakeholders and communities.

As part of its stringent validation process, GCG enjoins stakeholders and the public to participate in the evaluation process. For insights on the nominees' performance and impact, interested parties may submit feedback via gcgawards@gcg.gov.ph until 17 October 2025.

PBBM INAUGURATES UNION DAM IN CLAVERIA, CAGAYAN

NIA Region II – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA), in partnership with the Department of the Public Works and Highways-Unified Project Management Office (DPWH-UPMO), formally inaugurated the Union Water Impounding Dam in Claveria, Cagayan on October 14, 2025.

Led by His Excellency President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., along with NIA Administrator Engr. Eddie G. Guillen, DPWH Secretary Vivencio “Vince” B. Dizon, and local government officials, this milestone project is a testament to the government’s commitment to water management, irrigation development, and sustainable infrastructure for rural communities.

Right Price. Right Quality.”, on October 8, 2025, across all its social media platforms.

Held simultaneously by the NIA Central Office and Field Offices nationwide, the campaign underscores the Agency’s steadfast dedication to transparency, accountability, and integrity in all its operations. By ensuring that every irrigation project is implemented with the right standards, at the right cost, and with the right outcomes, the Agency continues to uphold its mission of providing efficient, reliable, and sustainable irrigation services for the country’s agricultural communities.

NIA Administrator Engr. Eddie G. Guillen emphasized that the campaign serves as a unified communication effort that reinforces NIA’s consistent public messaging and strengthens confidence in the Agency’s ongoing and future projects.

PBBM INAUGURATES P813-MILLION CALUNASAN SRIP IN BOHOL

NIA Region VII – President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Administrator Engr. Eddie G. Guillen led the inauguration of the P813-million Calunasan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) in Calape, Bohol on September 5, 2025.

With water source from the Calunasan Creek, the project covers 300 hectares of agricultural land in the barangays of Calunasan, Abucayan Sur, Lucog, and Bentig, benefitting 400 farmers and their families. It is expected to boost agricultural productivity, improve the lives of the farmers, and strengthen food security in the region.

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) supports the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) in celebrating Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) this September 2025.

 

This year’s theme, “Reimagining Governance in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” reflects the government’s efforts to utilize AI for policy research and the development of strategic national plans.

 

In line with this vision, NIA continues to explore the responsible use of AI technologies to provide efficient, reliable, and sustainable irrigation services to the Filipino farmers. Among these innovations is AgroScout, an AI-powered app for precision agriculture that helps detect crop diseases, improve yields, reduce pesticide use, and increase farmers' income.

 

PBBM VISITS P100-MILLION RM TAN SOLAR PROJECT IN ORMOC CITY

NIA Region VIII — President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and Administrator Engr. Eddie G. Guillen conducted an ocular inspection and site visit at the RM Tan Solar Pump Irrigation Project (SPIP) in Ormoc City, Leyte on August 18, 2025.

With a total project cost of P100 million, the RM Tan SPIP will provide irrigation water to 100 hectares of farmland, ensuring sufficient supply for two cropping seasons. This project will benefit 92 farmers and their families. With the completion of the project, local farmers would no longer have to rely on diesel-powered motor pumps for irrigation. Aside from being cost-efficient, solar projects are environmentally friendly, reinforcing NIA's dedication in renewable energy development.

The construction of SPIPs across the country is part of NIA Administrator Guillen's 7-Point Strategic Policy Agenda, particularly in Climate-Smart Irrigation Systems.

NIA, DA, NOVO ECIJANO FARMERS CELEBRATE GAINS FROM DOUBLE DRY SEASON

NIA UPRIIS – Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel, Jr. and National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Administrator Engr. Eddie G. Guillen joined the NIA Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation Systems (UPRIIS) Harvest Festival for Double Dry Crop 2025 in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija on August 12, 2025.

During the event, a ceremonial harvesting of palay was conducted on the 5.7-hectare farmland of Mr. Arsenio Mallare, a member of the Hoy Gising Irrigators Association, Inc., in Barangay Talipapa. The activity symbolizes the success of the government’s intensified rice production strategy under the Masagana Rice Industry Development Program (MRIDP). The program supported a total of 76,075 hectares for double-dry initiatives in the UPRIIS service area. This exceeded the original target of 61,985 hectares by 14,090 hectares. Sec. Tiu Laurel highlighted that the event is the result of collective efforts among irrigation and agricultural stakeholders.

“This harvest is more than the fruit of planting. It is the result of collective commitment, hard work, and shared belief that Filipino farmers can lead our journey to food security," the Secretary said. In his message, NIA Administrator Guillen lauded farmers’ perseverance and expressed his gratitude for their hard work and sacrifices.
