NIA secures ISO certification

August 1, 2017, 4:52 PM

August 1, 2017 – The National Irrigation Administration secured the ISO Certification 9001:2008 after it successfully passed the two (2) stages of audit carried out by the third party auditors from AJA Registrars.

Included in the certification are NIA Central Office, NIA – UPRIIS Head Office in Nueva Ecija, NIA Region 4A Regional Office in Pila, Laguna, and NIA Quezon Irrigation Management Office (IMO) in Lucena City. It covers the four (4) major services of NIA - project implementation, construction of irrigation system, institutional development, operation and maintenance of irrigation system.

NIA Deputy Administrator Estrella Icasiano made the announcement yesterday during the agency’s flag raising ceremony.

“Na inform kami last week pa about NIA being an ISO certified. So nagbunga na yung pinaghirapan natin simula pa last year,” she added.

The Deputy Administrator recounted that the agency prepared for almost a year for the certification. She acknowledged everyone who gave their utmost effort to carry on the ISO 9001-2008 from preparation up until assessment.

“Dugo’t pawis natin ito kaya masayang masaya ako na sa huli na certified na rin tayo,” Icasiano said.

NIA Administrator Gen. Ricardo Visaya appreciated the core groups who really worked hard in securing the certification. He even challenges the employees to step up in serving and perpetuate the values and principles of an ISO Certified agency.

“With this title now sana paigtingin pa natin ang ating mga trabaho. Ang key word lang naman dito is yung cooperation, we have to work together,” he added.

NIA established its Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with EO 605 and AO 161 both directing government agencies to institutionalize the structure, mechanisms, and standards to implement the Government Quality Management Program.

“The challenge for every ‘NIAn’ now is to sustain the practice of QMS and Operation Manuals until we graduate to another ISO certification,” Gen. Visaya said.

International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a worldwide federation and a non-governmental organization that sets out globally recognized standards which help an organization/company to be more efficient and effective.
