National Irrigation Administration, Quezon City – Commercial Counselor Jin Yuan and Second Secretary Yang Ming from the Chinese Embassy here in the Philippines meet NIA’s top management headed by NIA Administrator Florencio F. Padernal, November 3, at the NIA Conference Room, Quezon City.

The meeting was primarily to discuss a smooth future cooperation for country’s irrigation sector. “We are glad that the Philippine President Duterte had a very successful state visit in China” Counselor Yuan said. Following the recent state visit of President Duterte in China, he further emphasized that the next most important action of the economic partnership is substantial implementation.

“We believe that your country (Philippines) is one of the most important economies in Asia”, he noted. The Commercial counselor further shared his meeting with the NEDA to draw-up a 6-year economic plan for the Philippines.

STRENGTHENED PARTNERSHIP. On October 20, 2016, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VI strengthened partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

NIA CARAGA - Almost 1,933 farmers will again benefit from the full potential of Simulao River Irrigation System in Trento, Agusan del Sur. The Ground Breaking Ceremony for Simulao RIS funded under National Irrigation Sector Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (NISRIP) commenced yesterday, October 25.

The project which has an aggregate service area of 3,154 hectares will rehabilitate and improve diversion dams, main canals, drainage canals, canal structures, steel gates, on-farm structures, and service roads.

NIA together with PHILRICE will implement the project which cost P184.87 million partly funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the National Government. It is set to serve at least 16 Irrigators Associations (IAs) not only for irrigation purposes but also for capacity building activities as the project also includes construction of IAs offices in Trenton and Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.

Libjo, Dinagat Islands - It is the prime duty of the agency to serve the community especially our farmers who continuously contribute to the attainment of a rice self-sufficient country.

These are the challenges embraced by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) together with the Local Government Units (LGUs) during the Inauguration & Turn-over Ceremony of General Aguinaldo Communal Irrigation Project (CIP) held on October 21, 2016 at Brgy. General Aguinaldo, Libjo, Dinagat Islands.

The project draws water from Maraguing Creek and is set to serve 45 has of agricultural lands with 50 farmer-beneficiaries of General Aguinaldo-Maraguing Irrigator’s Association Inc. The said irrigation project has a total cost of P7,478,073.55 under the NIA-RRECIS fund.
