Pump irrigation targets 240 ha in Mindoro

National Irrigation Administration, Mindoro - A new small irrigation project was inaugurated in Baco, San Teodoro Oriental Mindoro on April 27, 2016. Water Tacligan Small Irrigation Project (WTSIP) is a pump communal irrigation project which will serve at least 83 farmers within the service area.
NIA Administrator Dr. Florencio F. Padernal, Region IV-B Acting Regional Manager Engr. Ramon A. Bugacia, and Baco, Oriental Mindoro Mayor Reynaldo A. Marco grace the event thru cutting of ribbon, signing of system acceptance, and switching on the system.
Region IV-B Acting Regional Manager Engr. Ramon A. Bugacia remind everyone about the efficient use of the system capable of delivering service until next generation. He even states a continuous pledge of support to the farmers saying "Magkakaroon tayo ng proper orientation kung paano gamitin ng maayos ang ating facility na ito, nandito lang po kami para kayo ay alalayan".
The project started last May 7, 2014 and was completed on September 30, 2015. Water Tacligan SIP costs P21.6-million and will serve primarily the Lumangbayan Water Tacligan Irrigators Association, Inc. It will efficiently use the water coming from Matulin River increasing the rice production in the area.
NIA Administrator Dr. Florencio F. Padernal said that the main objective why NIA exists is to improve farmers' quality of life thru improved and productive harvest. "Gusto po namin na mapalaki ang kita ng ating mga magsasaka, at kapag maganda ang kita uunlad ang pamumuhay" he added.
Baco, Oriental Mindoro Mayor Reynaldo A. Marco expresses his gratitude towards the completion of the facility which will directly help the farmers in improving their harvests. "Ang mga ani ng mga nandito ay madodoble o kung hindi man ay magkakaroon ng tiyak na pag angat" he noted. Similarly, Lumangbayan Water Tacligan IA President Mr. Felixberto C. Axalan thanked the NIA management for bringing their hopes into reality.
The ceremonial inauguration is along with the celebration of NIA MIMAROPA's 5th anniversary with the theme "Limang Taon Na! Patuloy na nagbibigay-serbisyo sa mga magsasaka". The two-day event started on April 26, 2015 highlighted different vibrant activities including search for Ms. MIMAROPA 2016, motorcade in Calapan City, awards and recognition night, etc.
