NIA switches on P1.029-billion Pasa SRIP
NIA Senior Deputy Administrator Abraham B. Bagasin, His Excellency Han Dong Man, Korean Ambassador to the Philippines, Congressional Representatives, Local Government Unit (LGU) officials, Irrigators Associations, and other stakeholders led the switching-on ceremony of the P1.029-billion Pasa Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (Pasa SRIP) on July 05, 2018 at Barangay Pasa, Ilagan City, Isabela.
The project is funded through a grant from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) amounting to USD 21.76 million (Php 935.68 million). It aims to reduce the adverse impact of climate change and to support the enhancement of water management in rural areas through the construction of water impounding facilities. With this project, it will mitigate flood to save 434 units of houses and 465 hectares of agricultural lands. It is also expected to contribute in attaining the government’s program in Food Self-Sufficiency through the provision of additional 766 hectares that will annually increase additional 8,629.20 metric tons of paddy rice equivalent to Php 98.037 million.
Pasa SRIP, whose water sources come from Pasa River, involves the construction of Earthfill Dam with the height and length of 36.70 meters and 194.00 meters, respectively, with a storage capacity of 4.28 million cubic meters to irrigate 846 hectares of agricultural land of five barangays in the City of Ilagan namely, Pasa, Minabang, Morado, Fuyo, and Sta. Victoria. Its irrigation facilities include 6.81 kilometers of main canal, 12.35 kilometers of lateral canals, and 38.25 kilometers of farm ditches providing direct irrigation water delivery to 619 farmer beneficiaries, 3.11 kilometers of multi-purpose access road, and watershed management of 233.35 hectares of the Pasa River Watershed that will protect the storage dam by minimizing/avoiding siltation.
The Agency is now ascertaining its vital contribution to the inclusive socio-economic growth and agricultural development of the country through the efficiency in providing sustainable and reliable irrigation services to the Filipino farmers.
